Selangor, Malaysia - Bosch Malaysia is stepping up its fight against counterfeit power tools and accessories in the Malaysian market with the launch of a comprehensive anti-counterfeit campaign, followed by successful raids in collaboration with the Malaysian Enforcement Authorities.

The Malaysian market has seen a disturbing rise in counterfeit Bosch Power Tools, particularly through online platforms where fake products sometimes dominate search results. Counterfeit power tools are a serious threat not only to the Malaysian economy but, more importantly, to the safety of users,” said Caroline Kuek Siew Fun, Country Business Director of Bosch Power Tools in Malaysia. “Our anti-counterfeit campaign is a response to this growing problem, ensuring that our customers can trust the Bosch name every time they purchase a product."

According to a 2021 report by the EU’s South-East Asia (SEA) IP SME Helpdesk, the counterfeit goods market has become widespread across several SEA countries, including Malaysia. This surge results in significant revenue loss, reputational harm for businesses, and diminished consumer confidence. Successful raids

Legal and enforcement actions form a key part of Bosch’s strategy to combat counterfeiting. The KPDN, with the support from the PDRM, successfully conducted large-scale raids at three locations in Selangor. The targeted sites were identified as major storage hubs for counterfeit Bosch products, linked to a distribution network operating across several e-commerce platforms.

During the raids, KPDN seized a significant amount of counterfeit Bosch products. Enforcement officers also found unbranded products and counterfeit Bosch stickers at the premises. This strongly indicates an organised operation where infringers were printing and affixing Bosch’s trademarks onto non-genuine items without authorisation. These activities infringe upon Bosch’s intellectual property rights and also pose similar challenges for other reputable power tool brands operating in Malaysia. Bosch continues to address these issues actively, demonstrating its commitment to protect users and uphold brand integrity.

Close collaboration with legal authorities

Further investigations are underway, and legal action will be pursued against those responsible for distributing the counterfeit goods.

According to KPDN, “This significant seizure of counterfeit Bosch products reflects our commitment to protecting user safety by preventing the sale of counterfeit products. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Bosch to combat the distribution and sale of counterfeit Bosch products”.

Bosch extends its sincere appreciation to the KPDN for its cooperation and support in protecting Bosch’s intellectual property rights in Malaysia. “This collaborative effort between KPDN, PDRM, and our team underscores our dedication to ensuring the integrity of our products in the marketplace. We will continue to work closely with local authorities to combat counterfeiting and protect users from deceptive practices,” said Kuek.

Trusted source and verification

Bosch remains committed to upholding the highest quality standards. The company has a zero-tolerance policy toward counterfeiting due to the serious safety risks associated with sub-standard counterfeit products that fail to meet the safety and performance standards. Bosch urges users to remain vigilant and only purchase genuine Bosch products from authorised Bosch retailers, distributors or official stores.
